Ask a Canadian how to become an energy advisor and the honest answer is that it depends which organization you go through, what it costs there, how long it takes there, and whether it is even running an intake this year. None of that is written down in one place. This register is the start of writing it down.

Who this register is for

  • Colleges and universities running energy, building science or trades programmes.
  • Private training providers preparing people for NRCan, NABCEP, AEE, BPI or provincial credentials.
  • Examination and proctoring centres.
  • NRCan Service Organizations — the bodies that energy advisors must affiliate with in order to work at all, and which took the hardest blow when the federal programme ended.
  • Professional bodies, associations and certification bodies.
  • Utility and municipal programme administrators who set contractor eligibility.

What an entry shows

Who you are, what you issue or prepare people for, where you operate, how it is delivered, roughly what it costs and roughly how long it takes. Cost and duration are published as bands, not as a price list, because they change and because this is a reference, not a shop.

What it is not

It is not an endorsement, and it is not accreditation. CABCEP does not accredit training and does not intend to accredit training it might one day compete with. An entry means we have confirmed the organization exists, does what it says, and holds what it claims to hold.

Why bother listing

Because the practitioners who need you cannot currently find you, and because when this industry is next asked who trains its workforce, the answer should be a list rather than a shrug.
